In the U.S. economy:

  • The U.S. economy increased by 2,566,000 nonagricultural jobs in June 2014 over June 2013, a 1.87 percent increase.
  • The goods producing sector increased by 365,000 jobs, a 1.92 percent increase in June 2014 compared to June 2013.
  • The service providing sector increased by 2,201,000 jobs in June 2014 over June 2013, a 1.86 percent increase.

Among the states:

  • North Dakota recorded the largest rate of increase in total nonagricultural jobs in June 2014 over June 2013, with a 4.89 percent increase representing 22,000 jobs.
  • The largest rate of total nonagricultural jobs lost for June 2014, compared to June 2013, was in Alaska, with a 0.23 percent decrease (800 jobs).
  • Nevada recorded a job increase (5,300 jobs) in the educational and health services sector, which equaled 4.76 percent growth in June 2014 compared to June 2013.
  • Alaska recorded an 11.05 percent job growth in the manufacturing sector in June 2014 compared to June 2013, which represents 1,900 jobs.
  • Delaware recorded 8.70 percent job growth in the professional and business services sector in June 2014 compared to June 2013, which represents 5,000 jobs.

Among the metro areas:

  • In metropolitan markets with under 1,000,000 workers, the Muncie, IN metropolitan area ranked first in nonagricultural job growth for June 2014 over June 2013, posting an 8.19 percent gain, which represented 3,800 jobs.
  • Among metropolitan markets with a workforce of over 1,000,000, the Orlando, FL metropolitan area ranked first in nonagricultural job growth for June 2014 over June 2013, posting a 3.70 percent gain, which represented 39,100 jobs.
