Senior Director of Communications
Barby Grant leads communications for CARISCA. She oversees all communication and marketing efforts including publications, email communications, the website, social media, public relations and events. She has extensive experience in strategic communication, marketing and branding in higher education, having worked previously at ASU for over 20 years.
During her prior tenure at the university, she helped develop the university’s first full-color alumni magazine, for the business school; led communications for a capital campaign that attracted $522 million in private investment to the university; and directed a marketing campaign that increased undergraduate summer session enrollment in liberal arts and sciences courses in a year when overall summer enrollment declined.
In addition to her ASU experience, Grant has directed communication for Banner Health Foundation and Valley of the Sun YMCA.
She is a past president of the Phoenix chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and has won awards for chapter management, print publications, marketing communication campaigns and audience research. She also earned IABC’s Accredited Business Communicator designation.
She holds a master of mass communication degree and a graduate certificate in digital audiences from ASU. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Carson-Newman University.
During her free time, Grant enjoys playing pickleball, shopping at arts and crafts festivals, and reading or watching compelling stories presented on the page, stage or screen. She is a habitual viewer of the PBS NewsHour and aspires to become a practitioner of meditation and mindfulness but hasn’t found the patience yet.
